The elimination of inner borders in Europe and the opening of Central and Eastern Europe have sharpened the problems of border-crossing criminality, the rapidly increasing flow of refugees and the intensity of extremism.
European integration can not be stopped, so the establishment of European cooperation between various police services is also becoming a necessity.
In order to meet this requirement, Europol was created in 1992.
Notable in this respect is that the European Parliament has of ficially requested our advice in this matter. Exchange and cooperation programmes have been set up between various countries: a great number of subjects have been dealt with and require permanent attention in the future: - women in the police service - working conditions - recruitment of foreigners in the police service - the police, the media and society - uniform techniques and police investigations.
There is enough to do for this Trade Council.
Thank you for your understanding.
